Mitsubishi Eclipse GT
Prior to acquiring the Dodge Stealth my wife allowed me
to purchase a nearly new 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. I say
nearly new because it came to us via a used car dealer with less
than 1000 miles on it. It was one of those - owner bought it -
went and got the windows tinted - and the wife said "are you nuts"
kind of deals. He had traded for a more practical 4 door BMW
leaving the almost unused Eclipse for me to find. It was a
good deal. Thousands of dollars off sticker price and at a
time when interest rates were pretty darn reasonable for auto loans.
One drive with my wife and she was sold. Of
course, I should mention that she owned an 1990 Blue Eclipse
(similar to the Stealth's color) when we first met in 1990. At
the point where we had 2 kids under 2, it was time for it to go for
a more sensible car - which turned out to be a 4 Door Suzuki
Sidekick, which was later traded for a 1998 Dodge Caravan which we
still own. Along the way, we swapped out a Suzuki Samurai for
a 4 door Dodge Colt. We were a family and we needed stuff you
could get car seats in and out of. Convincing her to dump the
aging 4 door Colt for a new Eclipse wasn't hard - it was nearing the
end of it's life, we got a decent trade value and it was a chance to
get back something we had lost all those years ago.
The silver 2002 Eclipse GT was ours. Less than
2 years later we became a two sports car family with the addition of
the Stealth. Life was good!
